We have booked the Ciapae for our family of five for three nights this coming May, 2024. This place is still a recommendation in the most updated Rick Steves Italy book, and I have received confirmation of the reservation by email.
I am a little nervous about it though, because there are so many negative reviews on this travel forum. There aren't any reviews for the past 10 years, though, so I'm looking for input from anyone who has recent experience with FrancaMaria (in the past few years, if possible).
I would like any information you can provide, but basically want to make sure that we aren't going to end up in Italy without a place to stay, and that we aren't going to be asked for more money than we agreed to in the reservation.

Hi Jennifer!
I stayed the last summer at Francamaria's, as I did a few times in the last 10 years.. I stayed at Ciapae room just before Covid and the last summer I got Franca room, that's a new unit located directly on the plaza.
They're doing well and Franca also told me they was busy the last winter to renovate some of the oldest rooms like Mav or Bigeain..
I was about to book a room for the upcoming September but their website is offline due to server problems, so they're now reachable at www.francamaria.it - I got in touch with Giovanni (Franca's son, that's basically managing all the reservation) and he gave me the new website address.
So replying to your question, I always stayed here and they never asked me more money than expected!
