Food tours and cooking classes in Rome and Palermo

I'll be in Rome in late September for three days and would like to take a few food tours and/or cooking classes. Has anyone done this? I only see past posts from cookingclassesinrome.com and eatingitalyfoodtours.com. Have you used either of these? Are there any others you are familiar with? I'll also be in Palermo for one day before the RS Siciliy Tour starts and looking for a food tour. Thanks!

We did a eatingitaly tour when we were in Rome last May, Taste Of Testaccio. My partner is a huge foodie, we do at least one food tour everywhere we go and he thought this one was the best we had ever done. We also did a food and wine tasting at Roscioli and it was absolutely amazing. http://www.winetastingrome.com

If you'll only be in Palermo for one day, I'd recommend a tour of the Capo market instead of being indoors in a class. There are three markets in Palermo, and this is the one our B&B owners recommended. My friend is a market lover and I can take them or leave them, but both of us found it very interesting and worthwhile. We just went by ourselves (it's one long street), but there may be an organized tour if you prefer that.

My husband & I reserved the Cooking Classes in Rome last September, and it was one of our highlights of Rome. Fantastic fresh, fresh food & a knowledgeable. personable chef in a nice environment. And, we learned a lot after he asked all of us what we had for dinner the night before class! I wanted a professionally run but not stuffy class, and I was completely satisfied. We had reservations later in the day for the Borghese Gallery, but we decided to forgo those reservations and just enjoy not rushing out of the class.

Also, if you're going there, we went about 30 minutes early not knowing for sure how long it would take on the tram, etc. We ended up very early, so we walked around the Trastevere neighborhood & walked into a gorgeous church - reminded us of a smaller version of St. Mark's in Venice. Just looked it up: Santa Maria in Trastevere.

My sister and I took the same eatingitaly food tour as Kate did a year and a half ago and enjoyed it a lot. Food was delicious, varied and plentiful so go hungry, if you choose that particular tour. It was also a fun exploration of a neighborhood neither of us was familiar with and our guide was a great source of information.

We did the Eating Italy Twilight Trastevere Tour. It was wonderful! It was highlight of our trip. We loved walking through this neighborhood. It felt like authentic Rome. We highly recommend it.

Hi, I just got back from Rome, and enjoyed a home cooked meal with Rome Local Friend (www.romelocalfriend.com). It wasn't an organised cooking class or a food tour, but a chance to have a meal in an Italian home! Tiziano is ever friendly, and keen to share his love for food, and also share his recipes. I was amazed at how different the food was to the restaurants I've tried in Rome, and also how quick and simple it actually is to have a great Italian dinner! Check it out if you get the chance... and have a GREAT trip!!

If your tour group is staying at the Hotel Ambasciatori in Palermo, check into their cooking classes. We just came back from the Sicily tour, and the afternoon before the tour began we took the hotel's cooking class. Lots of fun, and the things we helped cook were definitely Sicilian - not typical Italian - and very tasty. Check into it; it was well worth the time and money.
