Florence Hotel and Resturant Recommendation

We stayed at Residenza Il Villino, a small, tranquil, gated inn set back off a quiet street east of the Duomo in a large, lovely suite that included sumptuous breakfasts. Very friendly and helpful innkeeper Barbara not only knows great restaurants and tips for getting around the city or catching the best views, she spends her afternoons baking the many types of delicate and delicious pastries she serves for breakfast, also including Enlglish/American fare such as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, hot and cold cereals, etc. A GREAT stay!

Barbara recommended Cucina In Torre and Antica Bottaio, both of which were reasonablly-priced and wonderful restaurants within a short taxi ride. Picci and wild boar, Creme Catalan and panacotta were luscious!

Have a relaxing drink at the restaurant/lounge at the Piazzale Michelangelo for a great view of the dome of the Duomo!

Grazie mille!! Glad you had d a great trip.

How does one reserve a table at Piazzale Michelangelo? --> Ah, found the webpage of La Loggia. Is this the only sit-down place there?

We stayed here many years ago when the proprietor was Sergio along with his wife. They had hoped their son would take over from them but I guess that didn’t work out. It was a wonderful place to stay for both of our visits in Florence. Happy to hear it is still a great spot.

Yes, that’s the place. La Loggia has outdoor/tent seating overlooking the city. Got a spritz and a snack and spent an hour just looking and talking. Go before sunset and hope the mass of tourists busses has gone for the best views. The statue is another of Michelangelo’s David. Who knows with which one he was most pleased!

I love the restaurant Il Profetta. Not far from the St. Regis and Westin Excelsior. The husband and wife owners are very friendly and accommodating. Apparently John Travolta has been there and they have named a very tasty pasta after him. I recommend it, at least as a sharing appetizer.
