Anything central, that is between Santa Maria Novella to Santo Spirito, San Frediano, Santa Croce, Duomo, Piazza Della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, Via Tornabuoni.

i have been to Florence twice and plan to go next year. first time we stayed opposite the central market, which was noisy and every time we came out the front door we were harassed by sellers....learnt out lesson.
Last year we stayed in an apartment on Via Pulazzuolo and found that to be a bit too far out as we like to walk then come back to our apartment and rest then go out again and we ended up with blisters!
Next year i have my apartment all sorted with Airbnb one street over from the market Via Faenza which has a lift and facilities to cook. We can walk from the train station with our bags and then easy access to the train for day trips.
Florence is a great base for day trips. We did a private tour to San Gimignano and Siena and on another day caught the train to Venice for the day.
hope this helps

My wife and I just returned from a trip where we stayed at Hotel Villa Medici, what a wonderful hotel, it is walking distance from Santa Maria Novella train station and only about 1/2 mile from the Uffizi area. Rooms were amazing, they have a small outdoor area with a pool and the room service was fantastic. We will go back.
