'HELP' First Night in Venice Restaurant Recommendations for 7 adults

Our group of seven will arrive in afternoon and we want to have a restaurant booked already for dinner. We are flying in from California and expect to be tired but want this first night in Italy to be amazing. Taking into account our being tired a fun restaurant with maybe a view or even outside would perhaps give us a feeling of 'Ahhh, were really here!" Your best suggestions will be very much appreciated!

I tried some fine dining my first night in Venice, but was too jet-lagged to enjoy it! You might want to save it for later - just take a nice long walk your first day.

Which sestiere? What time of year? What do you mean by "fun"?

We're traveling middle of September staying near Piazza San Marco. I'm just looking for something that can accommodate all of us so we can relax knowing we have reservations for a good meal. Doesn't have to be fancy, just good so we start our trip off right. Know how jet lag can do you in so don't want to stress about getting everyone fed, but still want a good memory of our first night. Thanks

A stroll over to Dorsoduro via the Accademia Bridge can rewarded by a dinner at Taverna San Trovaso, on the Trovaso canal. They do groups, none of it is outside, the food is pretty decent but not world stopping, and the views on arrival are pleasant. I suggest it because I know that they cater to groups.

I've been there three times over the years.

Ristorante da Raffaele, offers seating inside and outside. Last Oct we ate here our first night, sat outside along the canal. You get Gondoliers throughout the night floating by with their customers and some who sing. http://www.ristorantedaraffaele.com/index-eng.htm

Thanks for all the great tips. I'm checking them all out. The restaurants you've suggested sound really good. Thought maybe even finding a place for pizza and pasta even if they don't take reservations. This trip will be here before we know it.

Venice isn't really known for pizza/pasta - seafood is their thing - although you will find lots of touristy pizza/pasta places. One place that has good pasta is La Zucca - you can check it out on TripAdvisor. It's not in the area you are staying, but a nice walk or easy Vaporetto ride. Reservations are a must.

also - Pontini and Ostaria al Vecio Pozzo (brick oven pizza) --- you can read reviews and see photos on TripAdvisor.
