I was privileged to see the Sistine Chapel twice. The first time mid-day. We did have reservations, but still, it was crowded. Our tour through the museum was in a river of people and in the Chapel we were rushed along by guards. I did manage to get a seat for a bit, but even so, it was so overwhelming. By contrast the early morning tour with City Wonders was wonderful. Now there are a lot of early tours so you are not in there by yourself, but it is so manageable. Easy to get a seat. Even a little welcome an prayer by a priest. Our guide was so informative. And so cute. Our tour was Sistine Chapel Express so we rushed through the museum, and yet I learned more than I had when going slooowly on our own. We elected to go directly to St. Peter's. We could have gone back to the beginning to do the whole museum, but we had sore feet. It was a good choice. We were able to see the church and the very moving crypt with grave of St. Peter. Still gives me shivers.
I would recommend the City Wonders early Sistine tour to anyone.
