Hello-
My husband and I are wrapping up our Italian trip in Matera later this year. We are then driving towards Naples as we have a 6:30am flight back home on a Sunday morning. I would like to get as close to Naples airport as possible but in as most beautiful town as we can for that Saturday night before. Is it possible to stay in Salerno or similar the night before? If we work backwards we would need to be at the airport at 5am and leave Salerno around 4am. Since it is a Sunday morning maybe there won't be much traffic around Naples? I assume we need a car since the buses/trains/ferries don't run at that time? Perhaps, there is a better place (town) to stay. We have been to Naples years ago and would like to try somewhere new rather than the city again.

Did you consider Sorrento? I went there a few years ago, it is a beautiful small city.
In Sunday morning there is no traffic around Naples, everyone stays at home and maybe go to church on foot. Neapolitans are fervent catholics.

I love Sorrento but it is too far west. We are coming from Matera (near "the heel") so I didn't want to drive too far out on the Amalfi coast. Besides, I was also worried no ferries would run to Naples/airport at 4am on a Sunday morning in Sept. from Sorrento. Thanks.

There's a Holiday Inn about 1.5 miles from the airport, they may have a shuttle. booking.com has several listings in the area, many (including HI) for less than €100/night.
