I will pick up a rental car in Florence and spend 4-5 days touring Umbria. I had planned to drop the car in Orvieto, however the hours on Saturday and Sunday do not work with my schedule. Instead I plan to drive from Orvieto on a Sunday morning and drop the car at FCO, then take public transport to the hotel. I believe there should be rental car hours on a Sunday morning for drop off. I looked at a number of websites, but as I know sometimes things don't go as planned. Thoughts?

Even if there' no employee on duty most rental car facilities allow you to drop off and put the key in the return box. Airport car rental facilities are usually open 24/7.

Nothing wrong with Tim's advice, but make sure to take a bunch of photos of the rental & include the date/time stamp.

I've had to do that a couple times... feels a little strange, but take the photos and I am sure things will be fine.
