Dinner before La Scala

Any suggestions for dinner before a La Scala performance at 8? The performance will last until around 10:30, and eating afterwards, unless very light, would be too late (although I'm sure that's what local folk do!)--and we'd still need to have something before. I was there several years ago and I think we had something in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, but it was probably overpriced and not particularly good, but I don't remember at all.

One thing the guide told us when we booked the requisite Milan walking tour in order to get in to see the Last Supper. "Under no circumstances should you ever eat at a restaurant in the Vittorio Emanuele II Mall!"

Not in the neighborhood, we had a great dinner at Antica Osteria Cavallini. About a mile cab ride north of La Scala in the Republica area. They have early seatings for tourists before the locals start piling in after 9.
