Hi, originally posted we were staying 3 nights a couple blocks west of Piazza Navona, but have decided rather to book Hotel Rosetta in Monti district. Would really appreciate new suggestions for unpretentious "when in Rome eat as the Romans do", Rick Steves backdoor type places within walking distance. Thanks
I started following this blogger Maria Pasquale on Instagram before leaving and she has a lot of great suggestions:

Also Katie Parla is another and if you search in her search menu she has a few suggestions too.
Also check Elizabeth Minichelli’s App EAT ROME in addition to Katie Parla’s App.
We had a great meal here this summer http://www.latavernadeiforiimperiali.com/roman-cuisine.html
We too had dinner at La Taverna de Fori, and it was one of our favorites. I had the Cacio e Pepe with truffle which was amazing. Also discovered panna cotta there too which was so good...it’s so hard to find in the states for whatever reason.
Reservations are recommended. In my experience, it’s okay to call the morning of, or day before.
Hope your trip is great!
