My husband and I will be in Venice for a couple of day in late April for the first time:) We want to enjoy the sights of the city but do not sleep well with much noise. We also have an early morning flight back to US so will likely go by taxi as I am thinking this will be quickest way there. We would like to find king bed but understand that is difficult in Italy. Any suggestions with these thoughts in mind? Much appreciated.
Find on a hotel that is not on a canal for a quiet night’s sleep. Canals are Venice’s streets and highways. We had a terroble time trying to sleep on the Grand Canal in a five star hotel.
You will have to get to Piazzale Roma to find a taxi and you also can take an airport bus from there. We took a water taxi to the airport, fun, easy.
We stayed 3 nights at a lovely quiet hotel, http://www.hotelaicavalieri.com/. And the water taxi was the best way to get to the airport, we got lucky and shared it with another couple who happened to be leaving at the same time. It's expensive but sometimes the convenience outweighs the cost.
Have you looked at AirBnB? We rented an apartment in the Cannaregio district for Sept. nice, quiet neighborhood....don't have a clue the ease with which to get to the airport but we have an afternoon flight out so not too worried.
Thanks so much for your comments. I decided to splurge a bit and booked a room at Splendid Venice Venezia which appears to be great location yet quiet.
Libby, we spent two weeks in an apartment in Cannareggio and loved it, a real neighborhood.
We are traveling by train from Rome to Venice where we will be spending a few nights in an apartment in Cannaregio on the canal. Suggestions on the simplest way to get to the apartment? Water Taxi? Is this something we need to coordinate prior to arriving or is it fairly easy to get from point A Train Station to Apartment? Our AirB&B host will meet us at the Canal and walk us to the Apartment. Thanks!
You should be able to take a vaporetto. Ask your host which stop he will meet you at. If you are going to be there for a few days, consider a multi-day pass. Vaporetto tickets are pricey when purchased one trip at a time.
Tickets are available on the canal right outside the train station. You need not get them in advance. Info on the vaporetti and more is here.
