My husband and I will be staying in Catania for two nights in mid May 2019 before returning to Canada. Our flight leaves at 6:00 am from Catania airport. My understanding is that the bus to the airport starts at 5 or 5:30, and takes 30 minutes from the Centre of Catania, so it is not an option for us. I don't know what taxi fare is likely to be. My preference is to stay in the Centre, however, despite the early morning flight, so that we can see a bit of Catania and have a nice supper for our last night. I am not sure of the best neighbourhoods to stay in Catania, nor if there are some places that would make for an easier getaway on the day we leave. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
I highly recommend the Liberty Hotel which is very convenient for seeing the sights in Catania. I stayed there on my first solo trip a few years ago and it was the hotel used on my Rick Steves Sicily tour last year. They’ll be happy to arrange a taxi to the airport and if I remember correctly, the cost was about $12.
We second staying at Liberty Hotel. It is centrally located to walk to restaurants and attractions. We felt totally safe in the neighborhood. We too had an early flight. The Taxi picked us up at 0400. Well worth the nominal fee and reliability of a taxi. The only con for staying at Liberty Hotel was the location of our room. It was on the main floor next to the elevator. It was noisy late at night. If you choose to stay there, we recommend a room away from an elevator!
