Driving may be the easiest way to experience Italy's hill towns, however, we opted to base ourselves just outside of the main tourist routes and lodgings. Casale Napoletano is only 5 minutes from the main motorway, yet a tranquil rustic farmhouse outfitted with luxurious modern amenities and a splendid mountain view. The villa is only 10 minutes from the gorgeous village of Montone; 30-45 minutes from Assisi, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto, Deruta, and Gubbio; 2 hours south of Florence; and, 2 hours north of Rome.
We must credit the owner, Mike, for our unforgettable stay. He preempted our needs and offered spot-on recommendations, most of which is also in a convenient updated binder at the villa. There's tremendous attention to detail, for instance, all the dozen of appliances were functioning(!), wifi was available in every room, sheets were clean...actually, the house and furniture were immaculate. Stepping out, we took huge pleasure in hiking and biking (separate rental@ Gubbio) right from the scenic hill of the villa--not to set spoil expectations, but misty mornings are especially a treat. At the end of June, lavender laced the air and figs weighed down the trees.
Casale Napoletano accommodated our party of 6 adults and 4 children very comfortably. It has 5 bedrooms (over 3 levels), 3 baths, spacious common areas, washer/dryer, and plenty of entertainment/books that Mike and his family generously share with you... in case the oversized pool hasn't already derailed your excursion plans. Be sure to book Sabrina and Franca's catered meal, at least for the day of your arrival! You'll be immediately immersed in the local flavors and season's harvest. The villa has alfresco dining furniture perfect for pizza straight from the stone oven (heats over 500F!), in addition to the charming indoor kitchen dining. Although the kitchen is well-appointed and we're decent cooks, we also sprang for a couple of homemade dinners at Franco and Anna's, just at the foot of the hill. They are absolutely delightful company!
