Camping Rialto - Venice - Pleasant Surprise

Since I just posted about my worst experience on my month in Italy and Greece, I thought I should also post about the most pleasant surprise - Camping Rialto!

Camping was not something that I had planned to do on our mother/daughter trip, but my daughter loves to save money and try different experiences. This is camping at its best. We had a tiny little cabin that was rustic and clean. The bedding was clean and of good quality. We rented towels and the bath house was clean and well-maintained. The bus stop is across the street from the campground. There is a beautiful pool, but since our stay was in mid-October, it had closed for the season.

The best part of Camping Rialto was the helpful staff who helped us solve our travel difficulties and had excellent recommendations for local places to explore. This was my first visit to Europe and I did not know that bus and train schedules are very different on weekends and had prepurchased train tickets not realizing that the bus does not run very often on Sundays. The front desk staff helped my daughter find an alternative way to catch our train so we would not miss our cruise leaving out of Ravenna.

SJ, That link takes you to the correct campground. We stayed in one of the tiny cabins, but all of the other units looked very nice.

since you had trouble with the buses, were you able to leave the mainland and get into the islands of Venice at all before your cruise?

How did that go?

Glad to hear that you liked the camping part and were able to please the young'en.

Yes, we were able to catch the bus to Venice with no problem. You can even buy your bus tickets at Camping Railto. Weekdays the bus outside of the Camp Ground runs every 20-30 minutes. Saturday it was about the same frequency. The problem was on Sunday. The bus that I thought would take us to the Central Train Station did not leave until after 9:00 a.m. If I remember correctly, our train to Ravenna was leaving from the Central Station at 9 am. What we ended up doing was taking the bus to the train station located on Venice Cannel (Santa Lucia) and catching a train to the Central (Mainland) Station. Since I had purchased reserved seats for the train, we could not switch our tickets. If we would have had regular tickets, we could have just changed the starting point of our tickets. I think our extra train ticket ended up costing about $5.00 for the two of us.

I stayed at Camping Rialto for two weeks in the summer of 2016, and I can attest that the accommodations and staff were all wonderful!!
