Best restaurant experience for last night before flying out of Rome

Our favorite night in Greece was in a small restaurant along the coast in Santorini. The family did not speak English and we did not speak Greek but we were still able to get into the kitchen and see the Grandma make the Saganaki and get her recipe. The setting was idyllic. We are not asking for much, just looking for suggestions for our last night in or near Rome as we fly home the next morning. We are staying near the airport on the coast.

Thanks!

You imply that you are looking for a special more authentic experience by the description of your Santorini dinner. But you will be in a major city and/or at it’s airport. Of course you could find a very good place for dinner but I think your description of the dinner in Greece makes this difficult to answer.

If you are on the coast you are a good distance from Rome. I would not call that area Rome. I doubt if anyone has much experience since that is well outside of Rome. Best recommendation is to check with the hotel. And you probably are in an area of non-tourist so finding a small place that only speaks Italian could be pretty easy. And getting into Rome from that area could be a little complicated if you don't have a car.

I can't name a particular place, but on my last trip there i spent a full day in Fiumicino...not the aeroporto, the actual small fishing town nearby. The fishing boats all moor alongside the banks of the canal that forms one side of the main drag. The other side is lined with cafes & restaurants from small mom & pop joints to quite posh trattoria. The whole little town was charming & seemed unaware that there was a huge int'l airport only a few Kms away. We ate a superb seafood meal there which had come in a few hours earlier off the boat that was tied up across the street. I can't recall the name of the restaurant (or the name of the 1.5 liter of local plonk we drank!) but the whole evening left a rosy glow.
