Best of Sicily Tour - on your own dinners

I'm taking the Best of Sicily tour the end of October. There are quite a few evenings we are on our own for dinner.
I'm looking for dining recommendations for any of the cities on this tour (Palermo, Segesta, Trapani, Syracuse, Taormina, Catania).

In Palermo, take a look at the local markets. The Vucciria Market is quite close to one of the hotels the tour sometimes stays at, the Ambasciatori. I just read some reviews that were less than favorable, but we enjoyed this smaller market. We had a couple of good meals there, including a Sunday lunch when the restaurant opened just for us. Really.

If you are staying near Catania Cathedral (St. Agatha) and would like good pizza, I recommend Pizzeria Deposito Bagagli. (Weird name, Pizzeria Baggage Deposit, and the front looks like a place to leave your bags, not to get dinner.) The two of us shared a large margherita pizza and a salad. It was plenty of food, delicious, and a very reasonable price.

In ortigia, which is where the tour stays right next to Siracusa, we were recommended Maccale (chef Maurizio)and enjoyed it very much. You can look it up on trip advisor. In Taormina we really loved ristorante Numachie near the Roman wall. And in Trapani we very much enjoyed Al Vicoletto. Both are on the web. It was a great tour. Enjoy!

We have started visiting Catania annually to eat, in addition to the cannoli from Savia, the pizza at Squib. It's better than anything we've had elsewhere in Italy. The Stracciatella e Chips de Melanzane is my favorite pizza in the world. Their service is outstanding too, remembering our nightly order.

There's also a Da Michele location in Catania that is every bit as good as the original in Napoli!

Trapani: LA BETTOLACIA and IL VICOLETTO gave us wonderful dinners.

Catania: Great eating city!!! So many options. In addition to suggestions, above, we repeat at LE TRE BOCCE and VUCIATA KITCHEN MARKET.

Siracusa: LATTERIA DI MAMA IABICA, in Siracusa, near the bridge....

Segesta area: There are two rural agriturismi with excellent restaurants, but you'd have to take a taxi...if you want the names, I will post..

We did the Streaty Food tour Palermo Night Food Tour: Food Stalls and Backstreets and it was one of the highlights of our trip. I would definitely agree with the website that you will be full at the end. I always believe you should read reviews and their website lists what they try to feed you, allowing for seasonal issues. This is a walking tour.

My wife and I just did a food tour with Lo on the Road in Palermo. We found her on Airbnb experiences (I think it's called Unconventional Food tour or walking food tour) and she specializes in small groups, she'll even take 1 person on a tour. She was telling us she has many solo female traveler guests for this reason. I definitely recommend it. We had great food we hadn't tried before and have been to Italy several times and were very full. If you're going in the summer, bring water! The heat wave is insane.

We also ate at Trattoria Al Ferro di Cavallo which was great. They speak limited English but a good choice for being close to everything but not in the middle of the groups of tourists etc.

Ten years ago we traveled from Palermo around the island to Catania. The food everywhere was very good…much better than all over mainland Italy. Hopefully this still holds true. Have a great time in Sicily!

if the menu is in Italian and they don't have people steering you into the restaurant, give the place a try.
