We went 2x to Gelateria Santa Trinita just before the bridge (not the bridge with all the shops) into the city center. I am not a gelato fan by any means but this place I really liked.

Edited - I couldn’t think of the bridge’s name with the shops, the Ponte Vecchio. Thank you Jean.

The old standby Vivoli(although not cheap). I love that they have a gelato lab!

Threadwear, ohhh, the authentic Chicago pizza! Several years ago a coworker originally from Chicago found an authentic place an hour outside Seattle that closed before we moved to Idaho. She hooked us on that amazing pizza unlike any other! My husband & I didn’t need much convincing to drive out there. Alas, it’s been many years since I’ve had that amazing taste!

I was happy with Mancuso Gelati, and I’m picky about gelato. It’s located straight ahead on the left side a couple of blocks after you cross the Ponte Vecchio bridge.

There’s a lot of bad-looking gelato in Florence! Stay away from anything appearing bright-colored, fluffed up high or in plastic containers. And a good gelato shop has you pay before you select the flavors. There’s some scam ones (I observed one in Rome) that may charge a crazy price - €20 with silly toppings, fancy serving dishes, etc after they create it.

Pistachio gelato should be like a pea green color. Not bright green. We don't eat Pistachio, but always check it as an indicator.

Vivoli is featured in an "I'll have what Phil's having" episode.

Look for the places where the gelato is down in the silver metal containers not displayed in the trays!

I like Perché No! on Via dei Tavolini, just off pedestrianized and generally quite busy Via dei Calzaiuoli. .

Try as many different ones as you can, as often as you can, and tell us your conclusion.

Our favorite on several trips was always Gelateria la Carraia, on the Oltrarno side of the Arno River, across from the main tourist side of Florence. Cross the river on the Carraia bridge, and the gelateria is right there.

The latest two trips. we discovered an even better gelateria, deeper into the Oltrarno neighborhood, called La Sorbettiera, and located at Piazza Torquato Tasso park, .

My favorite is Gelateria dei Neri. They have a fig and ricotta flavor that I love.

Another vote for La Carraia.
I stayed in the building above it last trip, there was a lineup all day long.
Don’t buy brightly coloured gelato in decorated whipped up forms with 50 flavours on offer.
Look for artisanal sellers with maybe ten flavours, pale natural colours and covered bins to store it in.
