We are planing a trip to northern Italy and will spend a few nights in Aosta and Barbaresco.
Does anyone have suggestions for good places to stay?

A couple of years ago, we stayed at Hotel Cecchin in Aosta. Small property, family run, with an excellent location for walking in the town center. Very clean and reasonably priced. In good weather, breakfast is outside on their patio. Stairs could be an issue for some.
We stayed at La Torricella in Monforte d' Alba and did day trips to various wineries and food producers. The rooms were lovely as was the view of the mountains. Not in Barbaresco, but fairly close by car.
