Amalfi Coast: Where to Stay

Hello. Two adults and four older teens are heading to the Amalfi Coast at the end of December. Should we stay in Sorrento, Amalfi or Positano. We are thinking of hanging out but also using our location as a launching pad to visit the other towns! Does anyone have any specific places all 6 of us could stay?

Erica, while I've not personally stayed on the coast in winter, I'd choose Sorrento as it's the only one of the 3 to have ferry service (between Capri and Naples) and rail service (local Circumvesuviana commuter between Naples>Sorrento and points in between, including Pompeii and Herculaneum) as well as local SITA bus. Ferries will not be operating to/from Amalfi or Positano. Sorrento is also more likely to have more restaurants and whatnot open offseason.

What with the weather being changeable in late December, being a reasonably short rail journey (abt. 75 minutes) to/from Naples Garibaldi to explore the archeological museum, churches, etc. on a rainy, chilly, windy day would be a plus. Ferry is a possibility as well but may not run if the weather is too foul/sea too choppy for safe passage.

Current ferry schedules: use the dropdowns to change departure/arrival cities, and understand that schedules could change by end of Dec. For instance, I'm sure that ferry service between Sorrento and Positano is nearly at an end for the 2022 season.

Never say never but I don't think you're going to have difficulties booking an accommodation at this late in the game for offseason, although the region could be a bit busier over the holiday season than other winter periods.

(PS: Your question would have been better placed in the Italy forum. This one is for reviews of places people have already been.)
