Sal8, at Via Cesare Batista, number 8, is an excellent, friendly place with a small but varied menu. Try the Caprese salad. Simple, with the freshest of tomatoes and burrata sends this dish to a new level. Since portions are generous, I stuck with the salad and a pasta dish. First night was a lovely pesto of almonds, basil and cheese. My husband had a steak and yummy grilled vegetables. Second night was a house-made ricotta ravioli dressed in a buttery, whipped pistachio and almond Parmesan pesto. Why did I go back for the second night? First night was great, but by the time we finished dinner the neighborhood market was closed. I remarked to the Maitre ‘d that I’d have to go out the following morning to buy a liter of milk for my husband’s oatmeal. He laughed, disappeared for a few minutes and returned with a box of milk from the kitchen in a carry out bag. This way, he said, I wouldn’t have to get up early to cook on vacation! After a long but very worthwhile day at the museum and Valley, my husband was tired and wanted to skip dinner. Well I didn’t and kept our reservation. As a party of one, I expected to be seated in a less-than-ideal spot, but they gave me the lovely table we had requested the night before and made sure I was well-attended to. Class act staff and great food. Can’t beat that but be sure to make a reservation. Both nights, we/I watched them turn away at least a dozen tables.
Hi Wonderlust58,
Thanks for this wonderful review!
This restaurant was also recommended by our late friend Zoe.
And, of course, I throughly enjoyed a delicious meal there too!
If you’re visiting Agrigento, and love gelato, make sure to go to ‘Gelateria Le Cuspidi’, on Piazza Cavour (Piazza Cavour, 19)
Ciao!
Alas, with only 2 nights, we blew through Agrigento too quickly, and missed gelato entirely. However I can attest that the almond semifreddo at Sal8, I’m sure, is a worthy substitution,
Wanderlust58, you are "killing us with kindness!" Thank you for sharing. When you find a great restaurant it's always nice to return. We've done that many times. Bookmarked!
