Has anyone stayed at any of the following: Hotel Lancelot, Arch Rome Suites, Hotel Smeraldo or Albergo Santa Chiara? If so, any thoughts good or bad? Thanks!

Hotel Lancelot is one of Rick’s tour choices, I am booked there for his Rome tour. I haven’t stayed there yet but was impressed with the promptness of their response when I enquired about booking a room a day prior to the tour start date. I am impressed by their customer service.

I've stayed at Hotel Smeraldo twice in recent years and really like it. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, it's quiet, and it's in a great location that easily walkable to almost everything you'll want to see. Highly recommend it.

Stayed at Hotel Lancelot on the RS Best of Rome tour. Clean, family run, very good breakfast and (at the time) they had dinner a few nights per week. You are in a quiet residential neighborhood, it, walk around the corner and bam!-there is the Coliseum!

I stay in cheaper places, but I think the location of Hotel Smeraldo would be more convenient than the location of Hotel Lancelot for most visitors. The other two options are fairly close to the Hotel Smeraldo.

The Lancelot is pretty far from a lot of Rome's sights. On the other hand, if your major plans involve the Colosseum, the Domus Aurea, St. John Lateran and San Clemente, the Lancelot will be great.

In a large city with scattered sights like Rome, it's worth spending a few minutes with Google Maps, keying in the names of the major places you want to go and clicking on "Save" so you can see how your sightseeing targets are distributed across the city.

We enjoyed Hotel Smeraldo in late Dec, but all rooms are NOT created equal, nor quiet! If you want to open the window, get a 'Comfort (maybe Superior?)' room facing an inner courtyard, and be very choosy about the layout. If there's 3 of you, the room we had would work, it had a long corridor to the closet with a third bed option. The rooms run SMALL, but you can call the hotel to discuss what you want. The staff was EXCELLENT, really really kind & thoughtful. Loved the breakfasts.

We recently stayed at Hotel Smeraldo and loved it. The location was great, and the rooms had comfortable beds and many practical touches such as good lighting, a hot water pot with tea bags, and charging ports by each side of the bed. The service was stellar and so welcoming. Agree that the rooms are not large and if you are bothered by street noise with the windows open, book an interior courtyard room. Overall, I highly, highly recommend this hotel.

Some of the group we traveled with stayed at Hotel Lancelot and liked it as well. I spent a little time in the lobby there and the service was very friendly. My take on the decor was that it had an old-fashioned, charming vibe. I preferred the decor at Hotel Smeraldo but I think they are both excellent hotels.
