A lovely apartment at Lago di Garda

If you are thinking of including Lago di Garda in your Italy vacation, I highly recommend La Madrugada /hotel in Malcescine:

It has nice views and is close to the lake, but about half the cost of a lakefront room at a hotel there. In the end, we were not able to actually stay there, but the owners were very kind and responsive during the booking process. It gets great reviews on Booking.com (you can book there but the owners prefer that you book directly with them).

I am basing my recommendation on my very positive experience in communicating with the owners in the booking process (which we had to cancel), together with the positive reviews on booking.com by people who have stayed there. Also my knowledge of Malcesine from a previous visit. I recognize the location, and think it is excellent, and the photos on the website are genuine.

Lago di Garda appears to be very popular right now with prpeople heading to Italy, and Malcescine is an excellent place to stay on the lake—-very scenic, with good ferry connections and a mountain (Monte Baldo) rising behind the village with hiking that can be accessed by cablecar. Hotels there are quite expensive, and appear to be getting booked up for the summer, so I thought I should suggest a moderately-priced option that might otherwise be overlooked.

I was upfront about the fact that we did not actually stay there—-not yet anyway—-and people can take that into account when they are considering the suggestion.

Lola, thank you for posting your recommendation. Lago di Garda has been on our radar. A guide we used previously in Italy has tours in the region. I recall they stayed in Torri del Benaco. I wasn’t familiar with Malcescine. That said, your posting has piqued my interest in your knowledge of Malcescine! The apartment looks gorgeous & so do the Booking.com reviews. I am bookmarking!

We stayed on Lake Garda at Il Castello in Malcesine which has it’s own beach. We also enjoyed our stay in Saló on the SW coast, lovely town filled with European travelers.
