3 Nights lodging in Venice in October.

Looking for suggestions on what part of town to stay in for our 3 Nights in Venice in October. It's just the two of us -no kids. St Marks area looks good and I know many sights we want to see are near by. But I've not been to Venice so suggestions are welcome. Grazie'

Venice is actually pretty small, and it doesn't take too long to walk anywhere. The St. Mark's area tends to get extremely crowded during the day, so it might be more pleasant for you to stay elsewhere - I really like the Dorsoduro area, myself. EDITED to say that you posted under Reviews, which is for reviewing places you've already stayed or dined at, so you might want to move this to 'Italy' in the left column, in order to get more responses.

We've stayed in San Polo/San Toma area for our multiple visits - Venice is so walkable tho - even then it only took 10-15 min to get to Rialto - unless you are in the far reaches of the islands...the fun part is the walking thru the little alleys and campos to get to the sights.

We stayed at an incredible B&B -- Campiello Zen -- we found it on TripAdvisor. The owners were so kind and helpful to us. Gave us a map and taught us how to get around all the amazing canals and how to use the Vaporetto. The breakfasts they served were so delicious . . . authentic European w/cappuccino. It was super close to a Vaporetto stop, very easy to get to from the airport/boat - you don't want to be hauling luggage too far. We loved being off the beaten path, but just steps to a Vaporetto w/super easy access to everything else . . . we spent a lot of time in St. Mark's Square. The owners also told us about wonderful local shops with true Venetian Murano glass beads/earrings/etc - beware A LOT of what you see there is imported from China. They even made us reservations a month before we arrived at La Zucca - one of the best restaurants we ate at in our 3 wks in Italy (also found on TripAdvisor, but need RSVP way in advance). We were there in Oct also . . . we just LOVED Italy.

We stayed at Casa per Ferie La Pietà which is near St. Marks Square but away from the human-river which runs from the cruise ship dock to St. Marks. Near the San Zaccaria vapporato stop.

It has private rooms with shared bathrooms for very reasonable rates. I generally do not like shared bathrooms but they had a ton of facilities and it was always very clean - I think the nuns cleaned the shower rooms several times a day.

The view from the rooftop terrace is amazing both morning and night! And we could see the Grand Canal from our room and see the towering cruise ships arrive. Walking through St. Marks Square at sunrise is a priceless memory, basically no people where later in the day it is as crowded as Times Square.

Enjoy the trip!

BGardner,

Three nights is kind of my personal cut-off for an apartment versus a hotel room. Even for just a couple... Apartments are much more comfortable and come with amenities not afforded by hotels. And, they can be less expensive, to boot...

I like staying in Santa Croce due to the proximity of transportation and the University district. You can find some very nice apartments and hotels off the beaten path but still close and convenient to the sights and transportation. Of course, nothing in Venice is more than a 15-20 minute walk...

You might want to re-post you question in the Q&A section as this particular thread is for completed reviews.

We stayed in Dorsoduro - Casa Rezzonico - and thought it was the perfect location.
