We ( 4 adults ) are spending 2 nights in Cinque Terra and would like suggestions on places to stay. We were thinking either a B&B or a 2 bedroom apartment . Also will be traveling by train from Florence any special tips we should know ?
Thanks
Susan
I would definetely stay in Manarola again and at Arpaiu.
I used arbaspaa.com for our accoms both times we stayed in CT. We stayed in Corniglia, basically because it was the smallest and least touristy (I'm contrary like that - most people prefer Monterosso or Vernazza and Corniglia is usually the last choice of the 5). They book all varieties of accoms thru all the villages and surrounding towns. They also book walking and hiking tours, wine tastings and scenic boats and flights! They had a storefront last time we were there in Vernazza. You can send them your dates, what type of accom you want and your budget and they will give you what is available.
Susan, just to mention that if your trip is soon or during this year's high season, time is of the essence to get your accommodation booked. Hotels and apartments in the C.T. tend to fill up far in advance as it's such a popular destination. Don't dawdle!
I can vouch for the "dont dawdel" comment. We are going to CT in OCtober 2015 for 2 nights and I started sending out emails for Hotels in Monterosso, and all but one of the Hotels was Sold Out. Because I have arthitis in both knees we chose Monterosso as it has the least amount of hills and steps to climb. CT is in the middle of our Erupor trip and I don't want an injury to slow me down. I am still taking a tube of Ben gay and I am only 49!
In 2013, we did a 17 day trip to Italy for our 10th anniversary. Our favorite hotel of the trip was B&B Il Parco, up the hill from the "new" part of Monterosso. There is a 1 km walk up the stairs/hill almost directly above one of Rick's recommended restaurants -- Restaurant Miky. If physical limitations allow for the walk, we HIGHLY recommend it (they do come pick you up from the station when you arrive and take you back so you don't have to carry your bags up or down the hill). It is not one of the places Rick recommends in his guidebook (at least in 2013), but it should be. It's a little pricier than some of Rick's more budget options (which we often use but are so glad we "splurged" on this B&B), but not beyond the range he includes in his books. Fantastic breakfast, both what you eat and where you eat it -- on a terrace on beautiful grounds, high up looking out on the sea. The rooms are more modern, again beautiful setting. We did not use the pool, but there is one. We did sit out on a swing on a terrace sipping champagne (we purchased at a Rick-recommended place in old town) on a swing as the sun was setting and dusk was settling in.
I agree, don't waste any time. I booked hotels in Monteroso in early February for mid May and had to do quite a few inquires to find one that we all liked.
