Which option - Ireland Trip

Planning a 9-night trip to Ireland and Scotland and arriving in Dublin. Trying to figure out the best way to do it. We are eager to see as much as we can but want to do it sensibly. We thought of a few options, let me know what you think is best, or if you have any other ideas. We are able to rent a car as well.

Option A:
Two nights in Dublin
Overnight night in Wicklow
Overnight in Galway
Overnight in County Clare area (shannon/ennis)
Leave to go to Edinburg/scotland (tbd)

Option B:
Two nights in Dublin
Overnight in cork
Overnight in dingle
Then County Clare area (shannon/ennis)
Leave to go to Edinburg/scotland (tbd)

Option C:
Two nights in Dublin
Overnight in wicklow
Overnight in Killarney
Then County Clare area (shannon/ennis)
Leave to go to Edinburg/scotland (tbd)

Option D:
Two nights in Dublin
Overnight in wicklow
Overnight in Dingle
Then County Clare area (shannon/ennis)
Leave to go to Edinburg/scotland (tbd)

Sorry if this is unhelpful, but I wouldn't try to see both Ireland and Scotland in nine nights. Pick one and at least have time to see something besides the view from a car window. I've spent a total of 9 weeks in Ireland and 7 weeks in Scotland, and my shortest bucket list will take at least six more weeks for each.

Without knowing what you "like" (Neolithic ruins, old castles, gardens, seascapes, music, modern castles, museums hiking, or craic in a pub) its tough to offer advice.

Assuming you leave from Shannon, I'd pick Doolin/Ennis over Shannon unless your flight is really early. I love Dingle, but it's a big driving investment for a one night stay. Maybe drop Wicklow?

I’m sorry, but I have to agree you should choose one country or the other. You won’t see much of Ireland dashing from one place to the next. I would choose Ireland or Edinburgh and one or two other places in Scotland. Do the nights you’re counting include your travel days?

I'd pick one of the options that include Dingle. Dingle was charming!

But all the options seem exciting!

P.S. One the most common pieces of unsolicited advice you'll receive on these forums is to do less which typically contradicts the expertise of Rick Steves. But I suspect this is selection bias as forum regulars (who have impressive travel resumes indeed!) are in the stage of their travels where savoring is more important than surveys. So if you're likely to make more trips to Ireland and Scotland then slowing down is the commonsense advice. If however it is quite possible that future trips to either place may not be in the cards, well, skipping Scotland and missing Edinburgh in favor or more time in, what, say Ennis , well, that seems to me a bad trade off.

In any case, happy travels!

Option C revised:
Two nights in Dublin
Overnight in wicklow
Two nights in Killarney
Two nights County Clare area
One night before flight (either Shannon or Dublin)

Add the extra night to either Dublin or Killarney - or County Clare area, if you depart from Dublin.
