We will be staying in Dublin for a week in August and plan to do day trips from there. We are considering a one day rail trip to either Cliffs of Moher or Galway. Which would you choose?

Cliffs of Moher. You can visit Galway on your own just by taking the train there. Cliffs of Moher are more difficult to reach by public transportation.

The difficulty in answering this question is that if this is with Railtours Ireland the Galway day trip includes a motor coach tour to Kylemore Abbey and Gardens and as far as Clifden in Connemara.
I'm not saying you couldn't do that in a day independently, but it would be a complicated business.
So I think it is not an easy choice.
The Cliffs of Moher tour is out to Limerick, coach to Bunratty Castle and the Burren then the cliffs of Moher and back from Galway.
Another difficult one to do independently in the day.
Both have real value in them and are great days out, I'm not sure I really know how to decide. On the face of it if I had to choose my casting vote by 51 to 49% is Galway and Connemara.
But you could do both if you have the budget and time.
