I have one day free while staying in Dublin. Which would be a better choice for visiting a garden, Powerscourt Estate Gardens or Malahide Castle and Gardens? And why would you choose that one! Thanks.
I have Malahide Castle and Gardens on my list for my upcoming trip because it’s easy to get to using public transportation.
There is a day tour that includes Powerscourt.

Will you have a car? If so, I guess it would be easy to do either.
I will be using public transportation. There is public transportation to get to either garden. I just wanted to know if anyone had been to either and could help me make a choice with their impressions and information.
I've not been to Malahide but Powerscourt is lovely (including a nicely landscaped part with water features) and there's also a waterfall nearby. We drove so I'm not sure about public transport options but with a car you can make a day of it going down to Powerscourt in the morning, Glendalough in the afternoon, and then travelling back along the Military Road.
I've only driven by Malahide Castle but have been to Powerscourt twice. I would choose Powerscourt over Malahide, especially if you can do it on your own. If you're with a tour bus you'd be constrained by the tour's timing. Powerscourt is huge, very diverse - everything from formal to natural landscapes - and very well laid out. It's a place where you just want to sit and soak up the setting.
