Where to stay the night before Dublin flight departure

The two of us have a short 5 day trip scheduled in June. My second trip and his first. Our flights are in and out of Dublin. Current plan is night 1 in Dublin to get oriented. Take a bus or train to Galway (I haven’t looked into those options yet). Pick up a car in Galway and drive to Doolin. Nights 2,3, and 4 in Doolin. Then drive back towards Dublin for our last night (5). We could easily stay in Dublin again but would be interested in other less busy and more scenic options.

We would need to be at the Dublin airport by noon the next day. I wouldn’t mind dropping off the car early at our last nights location if that makes sense and then taxi to the airport. I very much appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you

Hi Suz, From DUB airport, there are Citylink express buses departing from outside Terminal 2 that go directly to Galway. This is the way to go. You can then add a night to Dublin at the end of your trip.
The night before your departure flight, Airport Express buses leave from convenient pick-up points every 30 minutes from all around central Dublin. The ride takes about 35-45 minutes. With two traveling together a taxi is about the same cost.
Many enjoy staying the night before their flight in the seaside town of Malahide which is just 5 miles from DUB airport.

Kenko thank you for all the information especially about the bus transport. Very helpful. I will look into Malahide for our last night.

We are now considering only two night in Doolin and maybe leaving a day early to see another city that would be in the direction of Dublin. I was looking last night at Kilkenny as an idea for that due to its history. Is there another city that comes to mind that I you might suggest for that evening for attractions or historic sites?
Much appreciated

Malahide also has a bus, the #102 to the airport- every 30 minutes from 6am to midnight.

I really appreciate the bus information and I will definitely look into Trim as a last night option.
Thank you!

Hi Suz, Kilkenny makes for a fine stopover ( despite my reservations about a town with the name “Kilkenny”).
On the way there from Doolin, you might also find Killarney of interest. It’s right on the route—as is the Rock of Cashel.
Have a great trip!
