Where to stay, north of Galway

I am needing suggestions for which town would be good for bed and breakfast places to stay in the area just north of Galway? Also, would like to know if rental cars are normally readily available in Galway? We plan to visit in May 2022.

Thank you!

Westport is one of those fairy tail towns and is a 1h 15m drive north of Galway and yes you can rent a car in Galway.

Leenane. It's in a beautiful setting between three mountain ranges and at the end of Killary Harbor, which has Ireland's only fjord. The Blackbury Restaurant https://www.blackberryrestaurant.ie/ also serves superb lunches and dinners.

You can take the train from Galway to Westport

Carol, how long is the train ride? The bus might be shorter.

There's a Dan Dooley concession in Galway: https://www.dandooley.com/. Good cars, fair pricing, and they do a good job of de-mystifying the insurance options - something that other companies usually don't seem to be able to do.
Another option about an hour and a half NW of Galway is the pretty little town of Clifden, which is right on the beautiful Connemara Loop Drive and close to the Sky Road, which is one of Ireland's great scenic drives. It's also not far from the ferry landing at Cleggan from which you can take the short trip over to Inishbofin - one of Ireland's better kept secrets.
