On my last night before flying home from Shannon airport, should I try in Limerick center? Near the airport? In between? Any recommendations are welcome, thanks.
I suggest staying at any of the numerous B&Bs along the Bunratty road behind Bunratty Castle. Bunratty is six miles from the airport. In addition to the castle, there is a folk park that is interesting, and there is shopping, a pub, and dining in the immediate area. The B&B we last used was called Dunedin Lodge, but there are several along that road. Under no circumstances would I stay in Limerick city center.
We have stayed three times at the Airport Manor B&B just several miles from airport, look them up on their website. It is lovely.
I've flown out of Shannon twice and stayed at the Park Inn both times. It's on the airport grounds, in fact you take a sidewalk to the terminal.
My husband and I stayed at the Park Inn in May. It doesn't have the best reviews on tripadvisor but it wasn't a bad place by any means. Clean and comfy but not luxurious, if that's what you're looking for. It's on the airport grounds and its really easy to walk right over to the terminal. And it was surprisingly quiet! Apparently, the hotel is in the process of being renovated so some rooms are more up to date than others. We asked for a "renovated room" when we checked in and the receptionist made it happen.
We stayed at one of the B&B's along the Bunratty road: Bunratty Haven. It was only 5.5 miles from the airport. Our wonderful room was only $60EU/nite. We had to get up early before they served BFast, so the night before they packed something special for us.
