When to book ferry from County Galway to Aran Islands?

We want to take the ferry from Rossaveale in the western part of County Galway to the Aran Islands. We want to go on a nice weather day in late May or early June 2017. If we book too far in advance, the weather on our travel day might be bad. If we wait a book just a few days before taking ferry, the ferry might be booked up (especially since we want to take the first ferry over). How likely is it that the first ferry of the day will be booked up in late May or early June 2017? Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about the ferry filling up. You'll be there during their shoulder season, ie before the big crush of tourists starts to arrive in mid-June when schools let out for the summer.
Do check the weather, pick a nice day, and then just book a day or two before you plan to go.
If you'd rather not drive out to the ferry terminal yourself be aware that the company offers a pick-up point in Galway to get you there and back.

We did the same thing in mid-September (the other "shoulder") and we booked the ferry two days ahead, based on weather reports. We needn't have worried because there was still plenty of room for same day walkups.

I was there in mid-June last year and booked the day before with no problem.
