Myself and 3 friends will be spending a few days in Galway this September. What was your best experience/activity?
We were all over Ireland for 14 days, and seriously the buskers in Galway were amazing. Wonderful musicians! It really stands out for me! Otherwise, it's just a great town. We only stayed overnight. We visited Inishmore (Aran Islands) earlier in the day before we arrived into town.
My experience in Galway was in late October into early November. Got to see how the Irish celebrate Halloween. It was a street gala with large imaginative floats, dancers, musicians and all the macabre one would expect. A few days later I donated a pair of expensive Ecco shoes (the pair Rick Steves endorses) to a thrift store for the less fortunate. Those things were like walking in Iron Maiden’s. Then off I went to Cork.
While there have been many fantastic experiences in Galway over two trips, the favorite has been dinner at Oscar’s Seafood Bistro.
Three favorites - live music nightly at The Crane, dinner at either Il Vicolo or at Cava Bodega.
I would second the live music at the Crane.
I was in Galway one year in July during the Galway festival. I saw a live stage play at a local theatre that was excellent. At the fringe fextival, I saw pottery from all over Ireland including North Ireland. Not related to the festival, I really enjoyed the historical walking tour offered by the civic trust and I took a day trip tour of Connemara.
Thank you for all the suggestions, it's a few months away but looking forward to our stay in Galway. Will definitely try to get to Cranes, and Oscar's.
