Our son is getting married in Ireland this spring. For the ceremony, we have to bring a suit & a dress, etc. Afterward, we plan to travel on to Wales & Cornwall. We travel light — carryons only. What to do with the wedding clothing? We don’t plan to return to Ireland after.
Consider shipping them home from the UK. A family member did this recently and it wasn’t as expensive as they feared,
If you don’t need the suit and dress would you consider donating them. I find I rarely wear dresses I’ve purchased for weddings again. They sit in my closet never to see the light of day again. I’ve started donating them to second hand stores. Might be harder for the suit, no one notices if they’re worn over and over.
Thanks for the ideas. We’ll be in the Republic — in a rural area. Is it possible to mail luggage? Are there any services that offer that?
Any friends/family that will be heading home directly? Cover their cost of an additional checked bag and send the clothes home with them?
Thank you! That is not an option for us this time, as our guests are planning their own European travels onward from Ireland and will have their own "dressy" clothes to deal with. We are all looking forward to more good advice!
Maybe rent fancy clothes when you get there?
Did you try UPS? I went to their website and entered Ireland and then Dingle and found two drop off locations. Try that and put in your location and see what comes up. If all else fails, call them direct and see what they may have close to your location. Be prepared for sticker shock though. We mailed our wedding attire via UPS from Philadelphia to Abilene Texas and with extra insurance it cost $47.00. Needless to say, we are leaving clothes there for my daughter to bring when she drives here. Good luck.
