What do we think about a 1/2 day horse carriage tour of Killarney ?

I don’t know how I feel about horse carriages. In NYC it seems the horses are not treated well..... what are the thoughts of these tours in Killarney? I appreciate your advice. We were looking at hiring one for a few hours at least.

I walked the park trail between St. Mary's Cathedral and Ross castle. It wasn't difficult walking (my 70 year old mother walked with me) but took awhile to get there and back. Several horse carts passed us during the walk. I don't think the horses were abused. It looked like a good place for a ride if the weather is nice.

Awesome....I was worried that the Horses were exploited like they are in Central Park NY and other places. I don't want to do anything that would hurt animals.

We read about a 1/2 day tour and thought it might be a fun change from the norm.

It is me, my husband and my 74 year old mom in October.

As I recall, one of the tour companies offers a half day trip from Killarney that includes a boat trip across the lake to Lord Brandon's Cottage, where you board pony traps for a one-way trip thru the Gap of Dunloe and on to Kate Kearney's Cottage (for lunch I think), then a return to Killarney by van.
That might be a fun outing for the 3 of you. It's a close call, but the trip thru the Gap is prettier than driving around the NP ... lots of photo ops anyway. Given the choice I think we'd opt for that.
