Western Way walking in late May

We would like to walk part of the Western Way in late May - Oughterard to Westport is one of our proposed itineraries. We are wondering if we'll need to book all of our lodging in advance. How busy is it this time of year and how easy is it to find accommodations? We have done many backpacking trips and town to town walking throughout the United States and Europe and carrying a pack is not a problem. So, we'd like to do this independently rather than hiring someone for a self-guided tour. Your thoughts and feedback are appreciated.

Late May is beginning to get busy and places may already be booked up. To be sure of somewhere to sleep it would be prudent to book accommodation in advance. Otherwise you may end up with a long walk at the end of the day to find somewhere.
