West cork skibbereen

My fiancé I found some very cute cottages in Skibereen West Cork. Curious if anyone is familiar with that area and if they would recommend it. We will be renting a car and will be staying their 3 days.

Skibbereen is a pretty little place and is well situated for off-the-beaten-path excursions around a part of Ireland that's often overlooked by the tourist throngs. It's handy for explorations out to Mizen Head and the Beara peninsula. The nearbly village of Baltimore is beautiful, has boat trip excursions out to the surrounding isles, and has an interesting pirate history that make it a worthwhile stop for an afternoon.
Good choice I think.

wow Baltimore does look cool!! I would concur that the Beara Peninsula is a great driving tour for a day or an afternoon, pretty rural and not the crowds you get with the RofKerry but really awesome views driving the ring. You would be 45 minutes from the southern start of Beara... http://www.bearatourism.com/bearaway.html We really enjoyed the drive around Beara from Kenmare, coming from the south would be equally as cool.

We really enjoyed the area. We were there in September several years ago and found it to be very peaceful and not at all crowded with tourists. Skibbereen has a small famine museum (Skibbereen Heritage Center) that was interesting, and visiting the nearby Abbeystrowry Cemetery was an emotional experience. I agree with Robert--Baltimore is a nice little village. We spent several nights there and enjoyed it very much. There are several pubs down by the waterfront and it was lovely sitting outside having a pint and watching the boats. During our stay we also visited the nearby Drombeg Stone circle, Lough Hyne (Ireland's first marine nature reserve) and Mizen Head, the most southwesternly point in Ireland. Mizen Head has some lovely views, and there is a 172 foot suspension bridge leading to a signal station built in the early 1900s.
