West Coast on Aer Lingus?

We have never flown a low-cost airline before. The best travel times for us are on an Aer Lingus flight. But I read the horror stories about 17 in seats and missing connections which we will have to do. I also don't want to be stuck in a plane with no/limited movie entertainment? What have your experiences been like?

Aer Lingus is good. It does not fall into the category of budget or low-cost airline airline. It is just cheaper to fly to Dublin than most other capitols over there to go somewhere else in Europe. I've flown Chicago to Dublin a couple of times on my way to Munich and Paris respectively. it had movies on the flight. Check if your flight has before book. Just go to their website they usually have a list.
I'm sure you will read horror stories about your other options; They all have missed connections lost baggage tight leg room in economy class lousy customer service, etc. People generally don't submit good reviews on airlines. Most people here love to travel and are not limited shaped by business travel experiences so the airline reviews don't matter as much as price to go to Europe.

I only took a short flight with them - Heathrow to Dublin, and it was very good.

We've flown Aer Lingus from Chicago twice, and it's fine. They fly Airbus A330s from Chicago. The older 200 model has more comfortable seats, but the touch screens on the entertainment system are flaky. The system actually went down on our return flight in May. Our outbound flight from Chicago to Dublin in May was on the newer 300 model, which was immaculate and felt like it couldn't have been more than two weeks old. The entertainment system worked flawlessly and there were plenty of choices. But the seats were rock-hard and the leg room was definitely tighter. I'd fly them again if it was a decent price, but I'd consider economy-plus on another airline in the future.

My wife and I flew Aer Lingus from Seattle to Barcelona on the way out, and then from Dublin to Seattle on the way back in April of 2016. Honestly, the only complaint I would have is the lack of a non-stop from the west coast. In both cases, we had to make a connection through Chicago, which adds to your day both ways. Outside of that, the experience was a good one and would compare very evenly with any of the US based carriers (American, United, Delta, etc). The entertainment options were no different than the American flight I recently took from Seattle to Frankfurt.

Also, I'm a fairly good sized man (6'2", 230) and had no issues with the seat width. As I mentioned above, we flew all the way to Barcelona on the way out. In Dublin, we changed to planes to one of their smaller birds and had the same experience as I did on their trans Atlantic flights.

If you're flying out of Dublin, one bonus is that US Customs has a branch in the airport, so you go through customs before you board your plane. Once you land in the US, you walk off your plane and exit the airport as you would a domestic flight.

Best,
Robert

Aer Lingus is no better or worse than any other airline. Flying overnight is never much fun. We have two choices: either pay (sometimes a LOT) for more legroom, or suffer through it with dreams of an awesome European adventure about to start.

Just arrived home today from Dublin to Newark on Aer Lingus. It was a direct flight, so cannot comment on connections. Not a low-cost airline, but when I compared to WOW Air and factored for layovers and the nickel & diming for pre-booking a seat, carryon charges, etc., the low-cost airline wasn't any cheaper.

On board entertainment was fine. Touch screen tv's with movies, music, and games. And no complaints with the seat size, but I am 5'6" so I don't know about a taller person, but the bulkhead seats on the right of the plane had plenty of space to stretch out.
