Visiting the Interior

We are visiting our son in the last half of November. He lives in Galway. We've visited Ireland many times, mostly the coast line. We'll be spending a couple of days in Wexford but are looking for some ideas for inland exploring. We've been to Cashel and Tralee but that's about the extent of it.

We've enjoyed Athlone, Carrick-on-Shannon, Kilkenny, and recently took a LeBoat to a bunch of smaller towns, including Portumna, Killaloe and other tiny villages. Enjoyed all of them. Our next trip will include Cavan, Omagh, and Cong mainly because my roots were there in the 1700s. I should mention that if the town has a nice pub with a trad session, we're happy.

It might help to know what your interests are, where else you have been in Ireland, how much time you have, whether you will rent a car (or borrow from your son or have him driving you), etc.
Athlone is on my list, as well.
If you consider Tralee inland, then I'll also suggest Derry and Cork. Both are excellent cities to visit.

If you have a car, the drive to Cong from Galway is easy and it's a charming town. On your way to/from Wexford, you could add some nights in at Kilkenny. My son moved from Galway earlier this year to Donegal, which is another beautiful area. As you've been many times, you know the weather. So I think any of these areas would be lovely to visit even in November.

Thank you! I sat down and started trying to remember the places we’ve visited and apparently I’ve seen a bit more than I realized:
Dublin (of course)
The Burren
Connemara
Cashel
Tralee
Dingle
Limerick
Kilkenny
Waterford
Cong
Sligo
Westport
Inishmore
and in Northern Ireland, we were in Belfast, Derry, Belleek, and Portrush

I appreciate the help! If anyone can think of anything else, please let me know. Thanks again!

It's not really interior, but Newgrange.
Since you've not been to Cork, you might check it out. With a day trip by train to Cobh.
Glendalough isn't too far out of your way with the Wexford plans. Not sure what that would be like in November.

Some other towns we've enjoyed are Clifden, Newgrange area (as another poster mentioned), Howth, Malahide, Glendalough or Donegal town. Most of these are not 'inland' but coastal. Just some ideas...
