I am traveling with my two sisters. We are going to Dublin, Ireland; Edinburgh Scotland, and London England: 5 days at each location. What might be the best way to take advantage of just 5 days in and around Dublin? Are there any self-guided tours (not renting a car), that comes highly recommended? And because there are three of us, we are looking to stay in a hotel. Any suggestions there too? Any advice and/or suggestions are most welcome!
My wife and I were in Dublin a few years ago and are returning this year. We took the Hop-On/Hop-Off to get a sense of Dublin and found that it got us to many places we wanted to visit. We are taking a day trip to Newgrange through Viator this year. The National Museum is great, and we want to make a return visit this year as well.
We stayed at Buswells Hotel with the Rick Steves Best of Ireland and found it very convenient to many places (it's next to the National Museum and close to Trinity College, Temple Bar, etc.). It was booked up this year, so we're staying at the Fitzwilliam instead, which is recommended by Rick. Have fun!
Mr. Woods, Thanks so much for your reply. I appreciate your suggestions. BTW, my mom lived in Anacortes for many years. Best.
There are many excellent tours available - easily found by googling day tours from Dublin. I would avoid the day bus tours going to the west coast unless 11-12 hours in a bus appeals :) However two great spots close to Dublin are the aforementioned Newgrange which is incredible. The other is a day trip through the gorgeous Wicklow mountains and Glendalough one of the jewels of all Ireland. They let you really see the area and stop at a wonderful pub for lunch. Excellent trip. You might also consider a train to Belfast for the Titanic Museum if that is of interest. But the first two mentioned are highlights of Ireland.
For day tours, agreed on Newgrange and Glendalough/Wicklow Mountains. Another to consider is Kilkenny - plenty to fill a day there and accessible from Dublin via train (about 1.5 hours each way).
