Visiting family on Inishmaan, but need help with itinerary back to Dublin

My husband, 9 year old son and 78 year old MIL and I are traveling to Ireland to visit my MIL family on Inishmaan. We are in Ireland from July 31st to August 7th flying into Dublin from Boston, MA. When we land in Dublin we plan on going straight to Inishmaan and spending 2 nights there. We then will make our way back to Dublin. What suggestions does anyone have for an itinerary from Inishmaan to Dublin? We will leave Inishmaan on August 2nd and fly out of Dublin on August 7th. We do plan on taking the train to Galway and flying to Inishmaan. Any advice is much appreciated!

Will you be hiring after leaving Inishmaan on August 2nd or are you relying on public transport?

This will determine what you can do..

What does "hiring" mean? Does that mean renting a car? We are open to whatever will make our trip "easiest".

Hiring a car makes it easier to visit places that may not be well served with public transport... Also you need to decide whether you want to spend time exploring an aerea in a little more depth or try and do a bit of a 'whistle stop tour' seeing more of Ireland...

Have a look at this thread which has ideas for two days based on a stay in or around Galway with a car. Depending on your interests, you might enjoy a visit to the Country Life Museum near Castlebar. (Allow about 90minutes to drive their from Galway.) as well as different displays on rural life 50-75 years ago, I found the most interesting bit the video recordings of people talking about customs and way of life 50 years ago, before the days of TV. Some of the customs were decidedly pagan. Tie this in with a trip to westport and along the coast to Louisburg before heading back to Galway.
