Verizon in Ireland?

We're going to Ireland later this summer and have Verizon service on our (US) phones. The Verizon plan has an International option for $10 a day per line which wouldn't be cheap exactly but would probably be worth it for the convenience if the service would be decent (relative to the locales we'd be in). When we traveled to Germany and Scotland a few years back we got SIM cards for a European carrier and that worked well, but we'd rather not mess with that again unless it'll give us superior service availability.

Thanks in advance for any experience you can share!

My experiences with Verizon's international service have not been good. Each time I've tried to use the phone, which would have triggered the $10 / day option, I was unable to place the call. I ended up borrowing a friend's AT&T phone. This was in Sicily and the Czech Republic, both of which are covered according to Verizon. Of course coverage isn't 100%, even in the US. But so far it's been useless for me.

I've not tried in Ireland.

We have had great experiences with the $10 per day Verizon plan. Both my traveling companion and I turn it on before traveling but we alternate the use of the phones. So I incur costs for half of the days and my partner incurs the other half. We've traveled the past 4 years in France, all over Italy, the Netherlands, England, etc. and we've never had an issue. In fact, I nightly use WIFI to send my Canon Photoshot pictures to my cell phone for emailing to my sister. We will continue to use the Verizon plan later this year when we again travel for a month in England.

We spent 28 days in Ireland (Republic and NI) in May and used the Verizon Travel Pass only five times. Coverage was fine and we were able to make the necessary calls. The rest of the time we kept our phones in airplane mode and used FaceTime and WhatsApp to communicate with WiFi.

In May, I bought a SIM from 3 Mobile and my girlfriend used her Verizon account. 3 Mobile charged me 20 euro for unlimited service up to 28 days (it resets on the first, so you might have to add another 20). It worked in UK too (both up north and over in York and Leeds) for no extra cost.

My girlfriend had intended to limit her use. She hasn't mentioned the bill but I think it charges you for a day even when you get a stray advertising call or text you don't want. Probably best to plan on using it every day.

Just went in May. Had Verizon $10.00/day plan. Very spotty/lousy coverage and not dependable for GPS. Very frustrating.
All it takes is one incoming text to trigger the $10.00 charge. Trying to figure out an easier way to use service for next International trip.

My husband used Verizon international for business calls during a trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland in May and had a good experience. No issues with call quality or internet availability. Our college-aged daughter also used it during a recent European trip to 5 countries and it worked well, with minimal charges. She kept the phone in airplane mode and used What's App/hostel wifi as much as possible (with cellular off). She was only charged $10 per day for the days she turned the cellular on.

I have used Verizon's $10/day Travel Pass in multiple countries around the world. While there are always - always - a few areas where coverage can't be guaranteed, I've had the same thing happen while in the US (think national parks like Glacier, Smokies & Muir Woods). Nothing is ever 100% perfect.

I used Verizon in Italy and had no issues at all, but I didn't try to access data in every single location, either. I relied heavily on hotel WiFi for most connections. Using Travel Pass was a bonus which I didn't need every, single day.

Just remember that you can switch your phone to airplane mode and use WiFi at hotels and other connection points. It may save you the $10/day fee if you don't have the absolute need to reach out and touch someone at certain points.

Hope your trip is wonderful!
