Two weeks in Scotland and Ireland

Any suggestions of an itinerary 14 nights in Ireland and Scotland? We are going last week of May first of June 2019. Two middle aged, very well travelled couples. Would like to drive but love tours at highlight destinations. Would like to see and do as much as we can without it being a blur.. suggestions and itinerary ideas greatly appreciated.

If you use the search feature here you will find this question has been asked a couple of times recently and got a lot of responses. The short answer is that you can't really do justice to both countries in just two weeks. Pick on or the other.

RS has suggested itineraries in his guidebooks based on how much time you have. I would start there for suggestions and I also agree with Anita that if you have 2 weeks to just pick one country.

I'll venture that 14 nights can be enough time to get a reasonable experience of both countries. To enjoy the trip, I'd say to identify your keenest interests and the places you are most enthusiastic about visiting. Make everything else optional -- and be prepared to scale back even on your top priorities. What you don't want is to be rushing from one destination to the next, checking off a list of places you've been.

To begin, do you enjoy cities, or is your idea of vacation a quiet stay in the countryside? For example, if you flew into Shannon you could spend 5-6 days in the relatively rural southwest of Ireland. Or if Dublin and Belfast are tops on your list, fly into Dublin and see those cities. Either way, return to the airport for a flight to Glasgow or Edinburgh; count that as a travel day. You'd then have 6-7 days in Scotland.
