Trying to figure out best location and itinerary for Christmas/ New Years travel

Hi all,

I have seen in other posts that I have fellow comrades asking questions about where to be Christmas and New Years. My mother and I are traveling around Ireland for almost two weeks. Landing in Dublin December 23rd and leaving either before New Years or right after. We are trying to make the most of our trip and realize (as everyone has mentioned) that most places will be closed Dec 24th, 25th and 26th. The plan is to visit Dublin, Dingle, Galway and Belfast. I am trying to figure out the best route to each city giving us the most opportunity to see Ireland. My question is, when we land should we stay in Dublin to start the trip? Or immediately rent a car stay in Dingle and drive around to see coastline and scenery on the days Ireland will be the most quiet? We do plan on grocery shopping the day we land and cooking our own meals Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Also, if we stay in Ireland for New Years, where is the best place to celebrate. Our other thought was to hop over to Edinburgh for New Years.

Any help/ suggestions are much appreciated! :) Thank you!

Greetings from Ireland, the best place by far to celebrate Christmas and/or New Years eve is in Dingle, particularly New Years Eve, its one of the best spot in the world to celebrate it, google it :)

The rest of Ireland is quite quiet at Christmas as its a family time, although there are some good horse racing festivals if you're interested on the days after Christmas.

New Years eve is a pretty dull affair in most places, aside from Dingle, I speak from experience - I've spent every New Years Eve of my life in Ireland, bar one.

I drove around the Dingle peninsula this year on Christmas day with my Irish wolfhound, even posted a video on youtube of it, and it was beautiful. Silent and peaceful and glorious sunshine.

Enjoy the festive season
