Hello...Is it possible to visit Trinity College's "Long Room" and library without needing to got to see the Book of Kells? Is there an admission fee for just the library area? Thank you...George
It is certainly easy to walk right past the Book of Kells and head straight for the the library. I know that is what my sister did.
Thank you for the information...George
You have to pay to see the Book of Kells to gain access to the long library but as specious posts said, you can keep walking and just go to the long room
Thanks for the help...George
An amusing aside if I may.
Visited Dublin many years ago (early 90's) before RS became as extremely popular and travel to Ireland wasn't on many folks radar. The whole Trinity College Book of Kells viewing was completely different from what occurs these days.
Three of us walked right in and meandered unencumbered by crowds. In fact we were the only people there....but I digress....
I was traveling with my friend and her sister. My friend is an avid reader and as we walked away from the Book of Kells display I climbed the stairs to the Long Room before the other two. None of us had a clue what awaited.
I walked in, turned around and waited. Her sister was next and asked why I was waiting. Told her "look inside," she did, smiled and returned to wait with me for her sister. As my friend got to the top of the stairs we let her go in before us.
She did, turned around and grinning ear to ear and said, "you are to bury me here."
One of those fond travel memories of an "oh my" place shared with friends.
Great story...It confirms our desire to visit Trinity College.
We were fortunate to see a partial traveling exhibit of the Book of Kells at our city's museum years ago. My wife is an avid reader so we enjoy visiting interesting libraries during our travels. We hope to avoid any long lines and skip purchasing tickets of any kind to see the Long Room, which is why I posed this question.I have submitted an inquiry to the college itself to find out more information. When I receive their message I will post it on this thread....Thanks All.....George
