Hello,
Im planning a trip to Dublin from Los Angeles. I must go for a wedding on June 8,2024. Normally I travel in September or October to get the best rates for both flights and hotels. But this time I don't have much of a choice. I have been looking at flights on United with
economy with extra leg room and the flight is approximately $4,500. I am in my seventies and in pretty good shape but still a flight without extra leg room for ten hours seems like it would be tough. Aer Lingus offers the same flight for $2,800. but there is not an option for primer economy, extra leg room. Who has flown this airlines? Are the seats hard, do they recline, and is the space for leg room oppressive ? Ha Ha ! Oppressive is rather a dramatic term but I'm trying to figure out if its a mistake to go on Aer Lingus or not.
If you can let me know your experience I would appreciate it.
Thank You,
Marlene Montoya
P.S. I can't figure out how to respond to information sent to me. I will try to figure it out today.

I've flown Aer Lingus a few times and liked the very much; they're fine, same as any other airline. I was in business class for the long flights, and it was delightful (well, business class often is...). Big roomy seats, great food and drinks, smiling, cheerful service, they even play Irish music when boarding. I would not expect all that back in Economy (well, the Irish music will still be played) but I'd expect things to be like they are in Economy on almost every airline: basic, seats not as big as you might want, but that's Economy all over.
The prices you are quoting look crazy, though - for those prices, you might even be able to buy those lovely business class seats up front. A quick 'n dirty search on Google coughs up a roundtrip price in early/mid June for just $1182 round trip in Economy, nonstop flights on Aer Lingus (or, in business class for $5896). FWIW on United, in Premium Economy, I see $2238 round-trip (but that's not non-stop, it'll be one-stop in Newark). I believe Aer Lingus is the only carrier that has nonstops from any US west coast city to Ireland (and they don't offer premium economy), so your options there are more limited - if you want a nonstop flight, you're on Aer Lingus, so no Premium Economy. If you want Premium Economy, you can't have nonstop. Take your pick which is more important.
I suspect you may be doing something wrong with your flight search, maybe try again?
Aer Lingus offers the same flight for $2,800.
I took a quick look - I'm seeing the Aer Lingus nonstop for around $1,500, flying midweek early in June..
From the AL website: https://www.aerlingus.com/prepare/seats/seats-information/
The seat pitch is 31" - 32" - if you aren't overly tall, that's decent seating for economy. The only extra legroom economy seats they offer are for exit rows - only 8 per flight, and you must meet the exit row requirements - and pay the seat reservation fee.
If you really want premium economy, look at British Airways through Heathrow - around $2,500 plus BA seat selection fees - for mid-week travel.
Edited to up number of extra legroom seats to 8.
