Is there a site besides Irish Rail that you can buy tickets? I'd like to be able to chose my seat, preferrable facing the front of the train if possible. Going from Limerick to Galway and later on from Galway to Dublin. Thanks for any advice.

On the Dublin to Galway Intercity route choose your seat during the booking process by clicking 'Manual Seat Selection'. On the regional route from Limerick to Galway you just board the train and choose a seat.
You can only choose to be forward facing on the Dublin to Belfast and Cork routes as those trains never reverse on route. On all other routes, because the trains change directions at various points on the network and swap between routes it is impossible to do that as any train can be facing in either direction.
So you just take your chances or board the unreserved coach and hope there is a free seat which is ideal for your wishes. At least you can pick aisle or window,
