Hello, I'm flying into Dublin late May for 8 days. Will be staying in Dubiin 1st & last night but staying Galway inbetween. I will not be renting a car but will be taking some day trips. What is the best train route to get from Galway to Kerry and can I do that in a day?
There isn't an easy way to get from Galway down to Kerry via public transportation. To use the train you'd have to backtrack into Dublin and then take another train down to Killarney which would take a full day - not the best use of your limited time I think.
Better (IMO) to concentrate on Galway and the Connemara area - there's plenty to keep you busy there for several days, including a day trip out to the Aran Islands ... with maybe an overnight stay for a real treat. You might also consider extending your stay in Dublin for a few days to permit day trip excursions from there up to Belfast for a day, to Kilkenny, to the Monastic site at Glendalough and perhaps up to Newgrange and the Boyne Valley.
Point being that there's plenty to keep you occupied in Galway and Dublin without running yourselves ragged trying to make it down to Kerry - best to save that for another trip.
Thanks so much. Going to Kerry was a thought for doing some research but can always go to Donegal from Dublin instead .
