My husband and I will be in Ireland late March to early April. Does anyone have packing advice regarding the weather? I'm guessing sweaters, rain coat/warmer coat... Thank you!
I was there in Feb. one year and can say that you will need layers. We had a number of nice days, but also some windy days (visiting Cliffs of Moher) where we were freezing.... You can buy a sweater there (we bought a few) but also be sure to take some gloves and a hat and warm socks. The hotels were cold at night so I was really happy that I had my fleece sleeping bag that I often travel with in the winter. It came in really handy. Literally they turned off the heat about 9 at night and I don't think it came back on till about 6am. Still a great trip.
Ireland can turn with its weather, not that it last for long, sometime a rain shower can be for a few minutes other times all day, so I would layer. My boyfriend is Irish and was just visiting friends in Dublin, said the weather was great for walking and that it should hold for the rest of the week.
Looking outside my window the weather is currently dry and mild (14C). in the next few weeks it's likely to be milder but it could be rainy/windy if you get unlucky. You can buy things here if you're stuck. Don't be overly concerned with the idea of rain though. It doesn't rain 24/7. Just come with light layers that you can add and remove. If you intend to be outside a lot then rain gear might be worthwhile but again you can buy that here. There's always a pub to duck into somewhere if you get caught in a shower.
Recommend a coat that is rainproof and a scarf. Have been there in December and weather was great, this last October needed a scarf to keep my rainhood on my head. You never know, just surely recommend layers whatever you do. March and April we had some rain and then sun, you never know.
Thank you so much everyone! We're so excited for our trip! We're coming out of 3 months around 30 below zero so anything will be warmer than here!
Yes. You can get all types of weather in Ireland. You can get frost right into May. The best thing about frost is that you get a nice clear sunny day with it. And it can get warm enough in April on a frosty day in the afternoon. But you can also get wind and rain. Make sure to have good shoes that keep the water out. You will have a lovely time. A lot of shrubs, bushes and trees can be getting some nice colour. If you love been around gardens, make sure to pop into the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin.
And a trip into wicklow as the fir bushes will be nice and yellow in April.
