What is the best way to travel Galway to Dublin in August for 7 adults. Is the train a good option?
There are both trains and express buses that travel from Galway to Dublin. The "best" way is a pretty subjective term. What is important to you for this journey? Price, comfort, time?
Carol- I would say comfort time and price in that order.
I'd opt for the choo-choo. The most direct line is Galway-Ballinasloe-Athlone-Dublin Heuston. If you've got the time and an inclination for more sightseeing, a few other routes depart Galway.
It's all here, including a country-wide route map:
I think train will be the most comfortable.
I've done both and it's six one, half dozen the other. If you're not buying your tickets in advance, you may want to be flexible - the last time we went Galway-Dublin, we arrived at the train to find it sold out. Not a big deal since a bus was leaving 20 minutes later. That said, there are 7 of you, so booking ahead is probably a smart idea last you get split up.
