Did you want to get between the airports or the cities themselves? And what do you mean by "best?" Cheapest, fastest, easiest with luggage, or something else? And how many is "we?"

More details will get you a more useful answer for your particular situation.

We, as in my husband and myself. General areas of those two cities. We are combining two different trips. One will end in Ennis, actually. The other will begin in Dublin. We'll have backpacks.

By "best" I guess I mean easiest and fastest. We're looking for a one-day trip. Cost is also a consideration.

Here's a very thorough reply someone posted on TripAdvisor in 2010 referring to travel from Dublin to Galway. I know Ennis is not exactly Galway, and I don't know whether the info is all still current, but it should give you a means of comparison.
"...we prefer the train - faster and more comfortable, and there's quite a few direct trains to Galway daily.
But if you are heading to Galway directly from DUB, you can pick up a number of buses which will take you directly to Galway.

By train to Galway from Dublin Airport, you need to take the Airlink 748 express bus service from outside the terminal to Heuston Station in the city centre and then take the Galway train from there.

This link has a map showing all the bus pick up points at Dublin Airport, all of which are close to the terminal.

If heading to Galway from Dublin city centre, then we'd recommend the train service from Heuston Station. Tickets are usually cheaper if booked on line, and return tickets are usually much cheaper than two singles. You can book your ticket online and then pick it at the station on the way to the train from a machine or a person. For fares, timetables and tickets, go to:

There has been TWO Irish Rail Strikes in the past couple of weeks and they have more scheduled. Be sure to check out the web before you go, as they have the dates scheduled in advance!

BusEireann is the public bus but there's also a handful of private bus companies. Dublin Bus. Local Link. and others. Do some searching to see which has the best deal for your route! Also Bus Eireann has a multiday deal for tourists. You may go on line to see what the lastest offer is!
